It’s founder and CEO Ma Yun or most commonly known as Jack Ma is currently the richest person in Asia and the 14th richest in the world with a net worth of US$ 41.8 billion as of June 2017.  He has become a global icon in business and entrepreneurship, one of the world's most influential businessmen, and a philanthropist known for expounding his philosophy of business.

He shared his secret recipe to success in one of his speech in Detroit at Gateway ‘17. A video was posted last June 22 at 1:30pm on South China Morning Post Facebook Page now with 824K views and counting.

1. Secret Recipe to his success is “Women”.

He said :
Please also pay special attention to women
Women care for other people much more than men. Men care for themselves
Women are going to be very powerful in the 21st century because last century people compared muscle; this century people compare wisdom
Hire as many women as possible - this is what we did, this is the secret sauce

2. Jack Ma gave an advice for young people:

"If you're 20 years old, please join a good company, find a good boss to learn how to do business"

"If you're 30, try to do something yourself."

"When you're 40, please do something you are strong and good at,"

"When you're 50 years old, please spend time on the young people, give them chances while yoou're still strong"

"When you're 60 years old, better spend time with your grandchildren on the beaches."

3. Being rejected - not always bad as per Jack Ma

He added: 
"My cousin and I waited for 2.5 hours during a very hot summer in order to apply for a job being a Hotel Waiter."

"After interview, my cousin is accepted and I was rejected - reason is he was taller and more handsome."

"30 years later, today, he is still working in  that hotel in the laundry room. And I changed my life."

4. What do Americans still think of China?

Jack Ma continued: 
"I asked a lot of Americans, what do you think of China?"

"Pandas? Bicycles? Great Wall? Tai Chi?"

"In China's big cities, when you pick up 100 young people, you will find 80 of them can speak at least English words."

"If you pick up 100 young people in America? How many of them can speak more than 10 Chinese words, except for xie xie"

5. Missing a golden opportunity.

He then shared: 
"I told the (San Francisco) team, the 30 people, said we are going to have to shut down."
"You wanna get cash or Alibaba shares?"
"Everybody said, give me cash, no shares."
"They all went home happily with $3,000. So we made a lot of mistakes, a lot of colleagues also made mistakes."
