Half-Pinay Earns Praises For Joining Miss Universe Malaysia. Find Out Why!

How would you define beauty? Nowadays, most people (not all of course) define beauty as what they seen on TV, magazines, billboards and beauty pageant.

It seems like media has already set the standard on how we should define beauty. It is always on the outside appearance.

The Bible explains in 1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

Even famous quotes describe beauty differently.
“Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it” by Confucius
and another one, “ Beauty is only skin deep”.

Now, an aspiring beauty queen from Malaysia is hailed by Netizens for redefining the beauty standards. She’s admired by many not only for her natural beauty but for her courage and confident as well.

Evita Patcey Edgar Delmundo, 20, a half Filipino and half Malaysian from Kota Kinabalu wants to pursue her dream to be the next Miss Universe. She auditioned recently for Miss Universe Malaysia 2018.

However, Evita is not an ordinary aspirant beauty queen . She is suffering from “Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus” a rare condition where the distribution of melanin across the skin is uneven. Her body, face is full of moles in all sizes.

Bullied as a girl, it was not that easy for her to try out for the said beauty contest. She recounted that a girl from registration counter was surprised to see  her and they even told her that she was brave enough to auditioned, then they just wished her luck.

She remembered that kids called her “monster” or “chipsmore” when she was in a primary school, and now she has already gotten use to unusual stares from people.

She narrated “I use to cry and blame fate for the way I was born but when I entered high school it all turned for the better. People were more accepting of who I am, I had friends and I became more confident in myself”

It was when she attended church camp in high school at the age of 16 that she started to accept and love herself and became more open to others. Then bullying gradually subsided through the years.

Evita explained that her condition is not a disease. She had been to skin experts and told her that those are just normal moles and it’s not a skin disease.

Despite of her rare condition she still very positive and looking forward to the main competition and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is her inspiration.

She said “I’m just keeping my fingers crossed. If I don’t get through, there’s always another platform”

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach famous line “Confidently beautiful with a heart” actually best described Evita as a person.
